How can I get a dosette box?
Patients who have a lot of medication, memory problems or carers looking after their medications may have a box made up by a pharmacy with their medication for the week.
This must be arranged directly with a local pharmacy and then we can supply the correct prescriptions.
What if I need an emergency prescription?
[Content needed]What if my medication is not on the repeat prescription list?
If you are taking a medication regularly which is not on your repeat prescriptions list, please discuss this with your usual GP when you are next in for your next appointment. If the GP asks for you to make an review/follow up appointment please make this at Reception before leaving the Surgery. If you have been recommended to start a new medication by the hospital, please hand in the letter to reception and the prescription should be available within 2 working days. If a hospital request is urgent, then the hospital pharmacy will provide the medication.
Where are the local chemists?
You can go to any pharmacy with your prescription. The nearest pharmacies are:
- Colinton Mains Pharmacy, 84 Colinton Mains Drive, EH13 9BJ. Tel 0131 441 3388
- Colinton Pharmacy, 46A Bridge Road, EH13 0LQ. Tel 0131 441 2352

Can my medication be delivered to my house?
Most pharmacies will arrange delivery of medication to housebound patients. Please contact your chemist directly to arrange prescription pick up from us and home delivery.
What if my medication is not available?
Recently there have been a lot of problems with certain medications being unavailable due to manufacturing shortages. Your chemist will contact us if there is a suitable alternative but sometimes you will be asked to make an appointment if there is no obvious alternative.
What should I do with unused medication?
Please do not bring unused medication to the surgery. You should return it to the chemist and this is especially important for controlled drugs such as morphine. Please note that the chemist is unable to re-use this medication and it will be destroyed so it is very important to reduce waste by only ordering what you need.
How to order a repeat prescription
There is a separate page about repeat prescriptions, and an online order form.
